Who is teaching at this workshop?

The 2015 Fstoppers Workshops will be hosting a variety of instructors who will be teaching many different genres of photography and videography. Confirmed for 2015 are Rob Grimm, Peter Hurley, Mike Kelley, Aaron Nace, Monte Isom, Julia Kuzmenko McKim, Pye Jirsa, Erik Valind, and Joey Wright. All of the instructors and their bios can be found on the front of www.fstoppersworkshops.com

When is the workshop?
Wednesday May 13th – Sunday May 17th 2015

When should we arrive and depart?
If you book a workshop that begins on Wednesday morning you will want to fly in no later than the night of Tuesday the 12th. If you book a workshop that ends on Sunday May 17th you will have to fly out on Monday May 18th. Keep in mind that you will not want to miss the welcoming party that Fstoppers will be paying for on Wednesday night. You also won’t want to miss Friday May 15th because each of the instructors will be speaking to the entire group at our Friday Forum which is free to attend. Of course many students and instructors will be arriving early and leaving late to enjoy a few extra days in the Bahamas.

Where is the workshop?
Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas on the island of Nassau

How much does this workshop cost?
This 5 day workshop will be made up of about 50 separate classes. Each of the instructors is in control of the length and price of each of their classes. The cost of this workshop will be determined by which classes you choose to purchase.

What is included in the workshop?
Everyone who books at least 1 workshop will be able to attend the welcome party on the night of Wednesday May 13th. This welcome party will include food and booze for everyone. You will also be able to attend the free Friday Forum event that includes talks from all of the instructors on May 15th. Access to all that Atlantis has to offer will be just a few steps outside of your hotel room each day.

What Airport should I fly into?
Nassau International Airport – (NAS)

Do I need a Passport?
While Nassau does not require a visa, you will need a passport in order to enter the country. Please make sure you have applied for a passport a few months in advance if you have never traveled abroad. Due to new laws on photo/video gear, make 100% sure that you tell customs you are entering the country for pleasure and not business.

How do I get from the Airport to Atlantis?
There are shuttles that run to Atlantis but your best bet would be to spend $30 on a cab.

How much are flights?
We have found that most flights from North America range from $300-$500. Over the years, we have found the best prices on flights through Google.com/Flights

Do I have to stay at Atlantis or can we stay off site?
You have to stay on site. The reason that we are able to have the workshop prices as low as they are is because we have promised to fill a certain amount of rooms at the resort. If we don’t fill the rooms, we don’t get the workshop conference rooms and this event can’t happen. If you are looking to save money we suggest splitting a hotel room with another attendee.

Does the cost of the workshops include a hotel room?
No, you will have to purchase your hotel room separately.

How much do the hotel rooms cost?
We have 2 options: The Beach tower is $169/night and the slightly nicer/larger Royal rooms are $239/night.  Atlantis does charge a few fees including a 20% country hotel tax and a few other smaller fees. Be aware these taxes are always included in all hotels even in the US so anytime you see a price per night you are seeing a pre tax fair.

Our price for the rooms are better than anywhere else guaranteed as we also were able to get the $30 per day “utilities fee” waved for everyone! In 2015 we have also struck up a deal to include free internet access for our entire group so no more $23 a day internet!

Are there any other costs I should consider?
Food, drinks, and any excursions you might want to go on (like scuba diving)

Can I share a hotel room with another student to save money?
Yes you may share rooms with other students but you will have to set that up on your own. If you have Facebook, we will add you to our secret group containing only people attending the workshop. You can use that to network and find roommates.

What is the best way to communicate with everyone while on the Island?
To avoid excessive cellular fees, you can buy a local SIM card in the city of Nassau for your unlocked phones. All of the official Fstoppers Workshop announcements will be made on our private Facebook Group open only to those who are attending the event. In the meantime, you can join the
public Fstoppers Facebook Group to network and ask questions about the event.

Can I bring friends or family?
Yes, and we hope you do. We chose Atlantis because it has something for everyone, including families with kids. We hope that many of the photographers who attend this event will be able to make a family vacation out of it.

Do I have to attend all 5 days?
No but we strongly recommend it. We realize that you may only be interested in taking a class for 1 or 2 days but keep in mind that even the instructors are going to set some time aside to enjoy themselves. Also remember that Wednesday night we are throwing the kick-off party and Friday each of the instructors will be speaking to the entire group. These 2 events are totally free.

You will also want to take advantage of the amazing water park, beaches, and Atlantis attractions around the resort. Check out the video below for an idea of all the fun stuff you can do on your days off.

What photo gear should I bring?
At the very least you should bring a camera, a few lenses, and some strobes.

The Bahamas has recently started cracking down on professional photo/video gear entering the country for commercial use. Obviously you will be coming into the country to take part in the workshop but we don’t want you to get hassled or fined. Bring a reasonable amount of gear but don’t go overboard. If you start bringing in studio lighting and light stands you might get caught and your gear could be held until you leave the island.

Make 100% sure that you tell customs you are entering the country for pleasure and not business.

Should I bring a laptop?
If you are going to be taking any software classes then yes, you must bring a laptop. Even if you’re not, we still highly recommend it.

What if it rains?
The show must go on. We will do everything we can to still produce great workshops inside. But we have chosen the end of May because of it’s predictably sunny weather.

I’ve heard food can be expensive; is that true?
Atlantis definitely has some fancier restaurants that can be a bit heavy on the wallet. Overall there are about 10 places to eat inside the resort. The average meal price ranges from about $15 – $30 with some of the signature eateries being even more. However, there is a deli near the convention rooms as well as a Quiznos and a Johnny Rockets which are just outside the resort. For those on a tight budget, you can also pick up groceries and store them in your room’s refrigerator.

What currency is used in the Bahamas?
The islands within the Bahamas all run on US dollars. Almost everywhere takes Visa and Mastercard as well as your typical bank debit cards. Depending on your bank, you might be charged a 3% international fee per transaction so it is wise to travel with some extra cash.

Is there a refund/cancellation policy?
Due to the fact that this is a very small event and each instructor is responsible for their workshops, there are no refunds. That being said, your classes are transferable so you are welcome to give them or sell them to another photographer.

Will Fstoppers be doing any other workshops in the future?
The success of this event will dictate if we ever attempt it again but at this point nothing in the future has been planned. Assume that this may be your only opportunity.
